The privately owned business was founded in 1903 by Danish immigrant Hans Andersen and his two sons in Hudson, Wisconsin, where logs arrived via the St. Croix River. Today, the 97-year-old manufacturer is an international corporation employing 4,540 people at its headquarters in Bayport, Minnesota, a 2.8 million-square-foot facility that covers 65 acres.
Andersen annually manufactures five million wood windows and patio doors, with sales worldwide. In January 1995, Andersen acquired a Canadian window manufacturer, Dashwood Industries, Ltd. in Ontario.

Fibrex-material products - produced in a lineal, build-to-specification environment.
In 1994 Andersen introduced Fibrex material, a main component of its replacement windows. Fibrex material is a revolutionary composite made primarily of reclaimed wood fiber from Andersen manufacturing operations and vinyl, and noted for its quality, durability and unlimited custom applications.
